Hey there! I'm Kanisha Nashay.
HERE'S THE DISH ON ME.
I am a writer, author and book coach for Christian authors. Always a lover of words, I started writing when I was 8 years old and ultimately decided that when I grew up, I wanted to be a working writer.
After graduating with my BA in English, I became a freelance writer and later went on to obtain my Master of Arts in Teaching. In my 13+ years of writing professionally, I’ve written for a host of brands and companies, including CurlyNikki, BlackNaps, Dragonfly Editorial, BrandIt Strategies, DevoZine, BAAB Marketing and Writing Services, and more!
Trauma was a part of my story.
BUT IT WASN'T THE END OF IT.
Growing up in a toxic, cult-like church environment, I endured years of grooming, manipulation, spiritual and emotional abuse by my former leader, and entered into a secret life of sexual sin with him that lasted throughout my early 20s. After his death, I embarked on my personal healing journey. It took time, but through prayer and therapy, I healed from my past and overcame the shame and guilt that kept me silent for years. Now, I share my testimony to bring light to the reality of spiritual abuse and religious trauma within the church, and to encourage women not to let secrecy, silence, and shame keep them from enjoying a full life in Christ. I’m a firm believer that while trauma may be a part of our stories, it doesn’t have to define us or dictate the direction of our lives.
Fun Facts About Me
- In my brief time of teaching high school English (about 1.5 years), I worked at 3 different high schools!
- The way my mind works, I am incapable of cleaning one room at a time. I usually “multitask” and clean multiple rooms at the same time.
- I drink coffee (daily) for the amazing taste and aesthetics! Caffeine has literally no effect on me.
BEAUTY FOR ASHES
I was blessed to marry my amazing husband, Xavier Parker, in 2022, and we have the most beautiful son, Shai Noel. In addition to being a wife and mom, I’m passionate about helping Christian authors share their stories and ensure their manuscripts are polished before publishing. I’m also honored to serve as a minister at Christ Way Cathedral in Upper Marlboro, MD under the leadership of Apostle Ronald and Pastor LaShawn Demery, where I’ve been a member since 2021.
